The Role
The Mechanical Builder – 1 plays a critical role in bringing automation systems to life. This entry-level position supports the assembly, plumbing, fitting, and mechanical integration of custom equipment ranging from simple fixtures to fully automated robotic work cells.
Working closely with engineering and senior builders, this role contributes to machine assembly, troubleshooting, and installation while developing foundational machine-building skills. The Mechanical Builder – 1 is expected to demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.
This position includes occasional overnight travel to support installations, retrofits, and customer service work.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble mechanical components and subassemblies according to prints and engineering documentation
- Perform pneumatic plumbing and routing
- Read and interpret mechanical and pneumatic blueprints
- Assist with machine assembly, integration, and mechanical adjustments
- Support troubleshooting and machine tuning during debug and startup
- Assist with customer retrofits, repairs, and cell modifications
- Support adhesion system builds, testing, and glue system setup
- Perform manual machining tasks (lathe, mill, surface grinder, etc.) as required
- Maintain clean and organized work areas
- Collaborate with engineers and senior builders to resolve mechanical issues
- Communicate clearly regarding build progress and potential concerns
Education & Experience
High School Diploma or GED required
1+ year of mechanical experience preferred
Exposure to machine building, machining, maintenance, or related mechanical trades is beneficial
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on ability
- Basic understanding of pneumatics and machine assembly
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings
- Mathematical proficiency for layout and measurement
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Strong problem-solving mindset
