The Role

The Mechanical Builder – 2 is an experienced machine builder responsible for assembling, plumbing, integrating, and troubleshooting custom automation systems with minimal supervision. This role demonstrates a strong mechanical foundation and contributes meaningfully to machine performance, quality, and on-time project completion.

Mechanical Builder – 2 works closely with engineering, controls, and project management teams while supporting junior builders and helping maintain build standards.

This position includes occasional overnight travel, typically 3–5 trips per year, sometimes lasting 4–5 days, to support installations, retrofits, and customer service work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble complex mechanical systems and special machinery according to engineering documentation
  • Perform advanced pneumatic plumbing and routing
  • Read and interpret mechanical and pneumatic blueprints independently
  • Execute precision machine assembly and mechanical integration
  • Perform manual machining (lathe, mill, surface grinder, etc.) as required
  • Lead machine tuning and mechanical troubleshooting efforts
  • Support power-up, debug, and startup activities
  • Assist with customer retrofits, rebuilds, and cell modifications
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to resolve build and design challenges
  • Communicate project status, risks, and mechanical concerns clearly
  • Help maintain build quality standards and shop organization
  • Provide informal guidance to Mechanical Builder – 1 team members

Education & Experience

High School Diploma or GED required

Journeyman-level experience preferred

3–5 years of machine building or equivalent mechanical experience required

Well-rounded mechanical background across multiple disciplines

Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with proven assembly experience
  • Advanced understanding of pneumatics and machine integration
  • Proficiency in reading mechanical and pneumatic prints
  • Solid mathematical and layout skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems independently
  • Project awareness and ability to manage assigned build scope
  • Strong collaboration and problem-solving abilities
  • Clear communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with high quality standards
  • Willingness to travel as required
